Mary Lou Hickey was born on September 4, 1944 to Antoinette and James Hickey. At the beginning of her life she suffered a great loss, her father and hero to WWII. This left Antoinette to care for an infant during a very difficult time in the world, the Great Depression. Toni joined her mother, Louise Hajek in College Point and raised Mary Lou together. It was around 5/6 years old when Mary Lou's mom remarried and had 4 more children. Again, tragedy struck and Toni's second husband died while teaching his gym class. As life went on for Mary Lou, she found herself as a teenager in love with a fellow that everyone knew as Butch. It was a love story like no other and Mary Lou was love struck with Butch until both left us and returned to our Heavenly Father. They shared almost 60 years together in marriage. While raising her own family, Mary Lou picked up writing, specifically poetry in her 40s. It was a gift to her from God. The poems on this website reflect a few decades of her writings and life story. Mary Lou poured her spirit and love into her poetry, a gift from God. Enjoy reading. May my mom's legacy live on through her words.
Mary Lou had eight children with Butch. Together they managed to raise the Faller clan with love, integrity and Jesus as our friend. From there she proudly loved each of her 21 grandchildren, making each of them feel special and then her 7 great grandchildren before her departure back to Our Father in Heaven. Rest in Peace.
My journey is to share Mary Lou's poems with the world. Perhaps one of them will help another or inspire another to live a full life dedicated to faith, hope and love.
